

In the early hours of Palm Sunday, April 2, 2023, Nettie Helen Shook passed away peacefully at the age of 96. Nettie was born on September 21, 1926 in Java, South Dakota to George Bieber and Magdalena Walter. She was the sixth of their seven children.
She graduated high school at age sixteen and moved to Detroit to live with an older sister, Renata. She worked in a cookie factory and soon met her sweetheart, Howard (Rusty) James Couture who was on leave from the Marines. They married December 4, 1944 at the Boston Naval yard. The couple eventually settled and raised their children, Craig and Joann, in Wyoming.
After Howard’s death in 1970, she met and married Weldon Thomas Shook in 1972 and they lived a happy life together until his death in 2004.
She became an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit in 1981. She was admired for her strong faith and commitment.
Nettie was known for her crocheted blankets and delicious baking– kraut burgers, cookies, Christmas fudge were some of her favorites. She loved to generously share these gifts from heart and home. She strongly supported Colorado sports teams. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and Solitaire.
Nettie had a contagious laugh and loved to make others laugh with her jokes or comics that she had found in the paper.
She was a loving and supportive mother and grandmother.
Nettie is preceded in death by her parents, five of her siblings, her two spouses, her daughter, Joann, and son-in-law, Bruce. She is survived by her older sister, Renata, her son, Craig (David) and step-son Jeffery (Jane); grandchildren: Annette (Josh), Ben (Lei), Claire (Michael), Deborah, and Ryan (Kelly), and great-grandchildren: Aubrianna, Alex, Bryson, Charlie, Christina, Dillon, Elizabeth, Isabella, James, Jesse, Kade, Miriam, Nathan, Paul, Savanah, and William.
