Phyllis Doraine Stave

Phyllis Doraine Stave, 96, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2026, at Wind Crest Senior Living in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. She had proudly called Wind Crest home since 2007, where she built lasting friendships and enjoyed the warmth of a caring community for nearly two decades.

Born on January 8, 1930, in Lisbon, North Dakota, to Clara (Nelson) and Edwin Froemke, Phyllis often reminisced about the joy of growing up on the family farm. After graduating from Lisbon High School in 1947, she attended Interstate Business College in Fargo, North Dakota, where she met Sidney. They were married on July 31, 1949, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lisbon and built a wonderful life together in Moorhead, Minnesota, where they raised their two daughters, Mary Ann and Lori.

In 1978, Phyllis and Sidney began a new chapter when they moved to Littleton, Colorado. They quickly became active members of Grace Lutheran Church, a community that remained an important part of Phyllis’s life. She faithfully served and generously gave her time through volunteering on many committees.

Throughout her career, Phyllis was known for her professionalism, dedication, and warm spirit. She worked at Western Savings and Loan, the IRS, and Blue Cross Blue Shield before retiring in 1986 as Executive Assistant to the President of HMO of Colorado. Whether at work, at church, or with family and friends, she approached every role with grace, integrity, and genuine care for others.

Following Sidney’s passing in 2005, Phyllis moved into Wind Crest Senior Living in Highlands Ranch. She quickly became an active and beloved member of the community, always finding ways to stay involved and connected with others. Whether volunteering on committees, welcoming new residents, playing bridge, or reading a good book, Phyllis kept herself busy and engaged. She formed meaningful friendships and especially enjoyed her role on the welcoming committee, where she had the opportunity to make others feel at home.

Those who knew Phyllis will remember her for her wonderful sense of humor, generous heart, and unwavering loyalty to the people she loved. She had a gift for making others feel welcomed and valued, and her kindness touched the lives of family and friends.

Phyllis’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother and cherished great-grandmother. She created a home filled with love, encouragement, and memories that her family will treasure forever.

Phyllis is survived by her daughters, Mary Ann Fergen (Chris Fergen) of Timnath, Colorado, and Lori Hull (Don Hull) of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, four grandchildren, Tyler Richardson (Lexi), Cassidy Richardson, Matthew Fergen (Katie), Ryan Fergen (Emma) and three great-grandsons, Sam, Wes, and Cooper.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Stave, her parents, Clara(Nelson) and Edwin Froemke, and her siblings, Donald, Dale, and Dorothy.

A private Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at Olinger Chapel Hills Mortuary in Centennial, Colorado.
