Born on September 25, 1945, Rex was raised in Winterset, Iowa, where he excelled both academically and athletically—graduating with honors and serving as captain of the high school football team. He married his high school sweetheart, Karen Lowery, on June 27, 1964. Their loving partnership spanned more than 61 years.
Rex attended the University of Nebraska on an academic scholarship and graduated at the top of his class. He began his professional career in accounting before moving into the oil business, where he achieved considerable success. After a brief retirement, Rex returned to the business world to serve as President and CEO of Grease Monkey from 1991 to 2011.
Rex was passionate about golf and was an active member of Valley Country Club from 1979 to 1997 before joining Cherry Hills Country Club, where he remained a devoted member until his passing. An avid traveler, Rex had the opportunity to explore much of the world—walking the Great Wall of China, cruising the Rhine through Germany, visiting Paris and Egypt, and playing a round at Pebble Beach, one of his favorite golf memories.
Rex is survived by his beloved wife Karen; their three sons, Joe, Drew, and Jason; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. His legacy of integrity, curiosity, and love of life lives on in each of them.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who wish to honor Rex’s memory to consider a donation to a charity of their choice.
A memorial service for Rex will be held Monday, June 30, 2025 at 2:00 PM with a reception to follow at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary & Cemetery, 6601 South Colorado Blvd, Centennial, CO 80121.
