IN THE CARE OF
Olinger Funeral, Cremation & Cemetery - Chapel Hill
Beloved father, grandfather, husband and friend Bob Abell passed away, peacefully in his sleep, on 03/13/2023 in Mount Vernon, Missouri. Mr. Abell had been struggling with health issues for several years, and was mercifully released from his suffering and called home to Christ. Mr. Abell had recently re-accepted God into his life, and lost an embattled fight with Parkinson’s disease.
On a cold Sunday morning in Englewood, Colorado in 1939, Robert Edward Abell was born to Robert Sr. and Ethel Abell. The 4th of the couples’ children, and only boy. He was born in the family home at 4135 S. Lincoln Street, and attended Englewood Schools through high school. As a pre-teen, he showed potential for business acumen, and started a small bottle recycling company. Eventually, he cut other Englewood kids in, and had a reliable, disposable income. 1956 was also the year he met the woman who would be his wife for the next 66 years, Priscilla Carmelita Ardrey. “Carmen” as he always called her, happened to sashay through the middle of a snowball fight he was involved in – and took a direct hit to her rear end from Bob. Miraculously, he survived her reaction, and they were married the next year. In 1957, they welcomed their first child, Tamera Kim Abell.
In 1958 the couple welcomed their second child, Roger Eli Abell. Robert joined the United States Army soon after, and served with distinction until being honorably discharged. Following his return to Colorado, Robert began a plumbing apprenticeship. The couple studied together and fought through Bob’s dyslexia by reading aloud so that he could graduate. He went on to hold the number …0001 plumbing license in the state of Colorado. Abell Plumbing company was founded soon after, and was a successful local company until Bob retired in 2016. In 1962, Robert Nate Abell was born, the last of Bob’s 3 children, and in the late 1970’s the family re-located to “the country,” in Littleton. 13118 N Highland Circle was the Abell Family home base for the next 45 years. Countless friends and family revolved from there, sharing meals, memories, and milestones.
Robert and Priscilla take great pride in their family and businesses, and also enjoyed traveling. The two covered many miles through the United States, road tripping alone, and with family. Grandkids often accompanied Robert and Priscilla on the road, and the couple also visited England, China, and Alaska. Bob greatly enjoyed meeting new people, and could strike up a conversation with anyone, about anything. The two also enjoyed a fair measure of success in real estate, owning and renting several properties in multiple cities. Between Priscilla’s financial savvy, and Bob’s hard-working, ambitious spirit, they were the embodiment of the American Dream. Bob was the definition of a “self-made” man, and made sure to pay that success forward.
Bob also had a healthy affinity for food, especially sweets, and had a private ambition to find all of the best pies and donuts in America. He once drove to Williams, Arizona for the express purpose of purchasing what he called the world’s best blueberry pie, at Pine Country Restaurant. Local Englewood restaurant, El Tepehuan had a burrito named after him (the Bob burrito), because his order was so specific, and so popular. Robert was also a collector, and curated a vast assortment of Hot Wheels toy cars, some of which he’d had since his own childhood. His love for classic cars did not stop there, and over the years purchased and had renovated several 1940 Fords, along with various other older vehicles.
Robert Abell was well known for his big smile and open heart. He enjoyed being social and telling jokes, as well as being generous and knowledgeable about many topics. He maintained relationships with close friends and acquaintances with people for decades, and never forgot a name, face, or song lyric. He was well known and well respected in his community, which he loved dearly. To his family, he demonstrated incredible love and generosity, and his bear hugs and jovial laughter will be sorely missed.
Robert Abell was survived by his spouse Priscilla, and their children Tamera Abell (Logan), and Eli Abell (Cindy), and Debi Abell (Jody); 5 grandchildren – Roger Eli Abell II, Rachael Abell-Moore (Richard), Robert Maine Abell, Mystina Abell (Willie), and Roxanne Johnson (Cory). Great grandchildren: Kaleb Dozier, Aydin Rosenberg, Kamber Patino, Rourke Abell-Moore, Tremaine Abell, Thomas Abell-Steen, Theseus Abell-Euper, Elijah Johnson, and Adeline Johnson.
Mr. Abell was predeceased by his parents, Ethel and Robert Abell Sr., and his sisters, Lucille Case (Marion), Dora Nell Lewis (Buck), and Bonnaire Kent (Kent), as well as his son, Robert Nate Abell (Michelle), grandson, Ezra Abell-Payne, nieces Claudia Lorenzo (Hans), Nancy Lorenzo (Howard), and great-nephew, Jeffrey Strauss.
