OBITUARY

Robert Ramon Montoya

July 12, 1989May 11, 2019

Robert Ramon Montoya went to his heavenly home Saturday, May 11, 2019, at the age of 29.

Robert was born in Farmington, N.M., on July 12, 1989. He came into this world full of fearless and brave – his family swears Robert’s first words were “I can do it!” He grew up as an older brother to Daniel, going on family outdoor adventures from snowboarding and hiking to sky diving and four-wheeling. He graduated Farmington High School, class of 2008.

Robert’s happy-go-lucky nature was a hallmark of his life, obvious in his beaming smile and in his love for his family and friends. Robert played the violin, guitar and drums, and shared his lifelong passion for music with his family -- jamming with his dad and teaching his younger cousins to play.

His friendly personality and love of snazzy attire carried him up the ranks at Men’s Wearhouse stores in the Denver area, where he eventually became a manager.

Robert is survived by his parents, Manuel and Margaret of Centennial, CO; his brother Daniel of Phoenix, AZ; grandparents Robert and Teresa Montoya of Farmington; grandmother Diana Montoya of La Cienega, N.M; aunt and uncle Elizabeth and Sean Sanborn of Farmington; aunt and uncle Helen and John Henrichs of Highlands Ranch, CO; and three younger cousins who adored him: Teresa Sanborn, Clemmer Henrichs, and Mercedes Sanborn.

A rosary is scheduled for 9 a.m., with a funeral service to follow at 10 a.m., on Saturday, June 1 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Farmington, N.M. A celebration of Robert’s life will be scheduled at a later date in the Denver area.

To honor Robert’s fearless spirit, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Epilepsy Foundation or the National Sports Center for the Disabled.

I remember good times when Margaret worked for an attorney and we had many fun get togethers. You and your brother always were so close.
As a neighbor down the street I would see you guys. Still see your grandparents often.
Cannot imagine losing a young person.
Peace be with you.

Robert, you were like a brother to a lot of us in orchestra. We all were a family, you were the type of person who would offer the shirt off your back if someone needed the help. You were funny, smart, compassionate, determined, and had a smile that lights up a room. I remember all out trips with orchestra and how we had a little gang that always hung out(and sometimes got in trouble lol). You were a great friend and I know there are so many impacted by you leaving us, we love you man! R.I.P Robert!

I'm so saddened to hear about Robert...he was such a joy! Kind and helpful, always going the extra mile to do his best and to help others to be their best. He was so creative and knew how to bring a smile to your face! May God wrap each of you in His peace and love and may the memories shared in the days ahead bring warmth to your hearts.

Dear friend, it feels like yesterday that we were at Smash Burger getting drinks with the crew. I couldnt believe the news today. You have impacted so many lives with our memories of you. I remeber when our licenses expired at the same time and we drove together to get them renewed. We had an ongoing joke about our terrible luck, and shocking, we got pulled over on our way to the DMV! Whatever you were meant to do on earth, you completed it and now the lord needs you home, you and the memories you gave us will never be forgotten. Watch over your family and comfort them through the loss. When the pain surpasses, your friends and family will celebrate your life. Those we've loved will live on through us. I say with a heavy heart, RIP Robert.
Sincerely,
Short Stack

I have such wonderful memories of teaching Robert in 8th grade at Hermosa. Robert was one of those special students who made a difference in my teaching career and one whom you remember for the rest of your life. His happiness and zest for life had a positive impact on everyone he met. He was quick with a smile and always willing to help with whatever needed to be done - especially with electronics. Robert, you will be so missed, sweet boy. Manny, Margaret, and Daniel, my heart is hurting so badly for you. I’m sending lots of love, hugs, and prayers your way. Treasure all the wonderful memories of your amazing Robert. I know I will.

Love,
Liz Phelps

I have, and always will remember Robert's smile, laugh, and great sense of humor as he came into gym class everyday at Hermosa Middle School. He was a joy to have as a student. Robert was definitely one of my "favorites" as he was sure to bring a smile, competitiveness, and a huge effort everyday to class. I am so sorry for your loss of such a great young man.
