Roger Oscar Auch, 74, of Littleton, Colorado died on Father’s Day, June 16, 2024 at Julia Temple Healthcare in Englewood, Colorado. After having endured several years of a series of strokes, being treated for heart failure and vascular problems, he was unable to recover from his last hospitalization.
Roger was born on November 14, 1949 in Menno, SD to Oscar L. Auch and Myrtle (Hasse) Auch. He attended schools in Kaylor and Scotland, SD and graduated in 1968. He moved to Denver in 1969 with the intent to attend a diesel school. However, due to the U.S. involvement in Vietnam, Roger returned to Kaylor and enlisted and was inducted in the Army on September 11, 1969. Ironically, hours after his induction, he received notice he was being drafted. Roger served in Vietnam until May 9, 1971 in the transportation division. After returning from overseas, he continued to serve as a reservist through the Administration Center in St. Louis, MO until September 10, 1975. During his service time he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Roger returned to the Denver area in 1974 where he met Tim Gist and together they worked to repair automobiles and sell them for years. Tim would go on to work for the FFA and Roger in time became the lead mechanic for A & E Tire until 1997. In 1998, Roger opened his own business, Shak Auto, in Littleton. Roger was always thorough with the work he did for his customers. Sometimes he could be generous to a fault with his discounted charges on work provided but, he gained a following of repeat and new customers by treating people fairly. After Covid 19, his business declined and he closed his business in 2022.
Roger was introduced by mutual friends to his wife, Monica in 1991 when she moved to Colorado with her 2 children, Vonnie and Scott. He became her go-to mechanic and they began dating in 1997. On September 18, 1999 they were married and would have marked 25 years together this fall.
He is survived by his wife, Monica; his sister, Sherri Weerheim, Pocatello, ID; sister-in laws, Alana Ackerman, OH; and Kris (Jeff) Hunt, MT; and brother-in-law, Bill Philson, CO; son, Scott (Laura) Worman, Highlands Ranch, CO; daughters: Vonnie (Topher) Rouse, Idaho Springs, CO; Theresa Bryan, Forest, VA; and Cecilia Auch, Overland Park, KS. Nine grandchildren also survive him: Dylan and Christopher Worman; twins Bailey and Patrik Bagwell; Jayden Thulson; Trenton, Chelsea, and Anderson Bryan; and Sephri Canales-Auch; along with numerous nieces and nephews and close friends, Tim Gist, Danny and Maggie Caouette and Debra Foster.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Delyle Auch.
A military service will be held on Friday, July 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W Kenyon Ave., Denver, CO with a pending reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Roger Auch to the Wounded Warrior Project https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org
