With deep sorrow and even deeper love, we share the passing of Roger R. Gunter, 65, of Highlands Ranch, CO: a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, coach, cousin, nephew, and friend. Roger passed away on July 6, 2025.
Born July 17, 1959, in Pueblo, Colorado, Roger was adopted by Marge and Tom Gunter, who raised him with steadfast love and support. From a young age, Roger was larger than life. He grew up playing tennis at the Pueblo Country Club, carving turns on Monarch Mountain, and beginning in high school, charging down the football field with a natural talent that would shape the rest of his life. Roger went on to play college football at the University of Colorado, where his passion for the game and for coaching took root.
In 1975, on a ski bus, he met Terri Corsentino; not yet knowing she would become the love of his life, his best friend, and his future wife.
Roger and Terri married in 1986 in their hometown of Pueblo and spent their early married years in San Diego, California. In 1988, they moved to Highlands Ranch, Colorado, where they would build a joyful life over the next five decades. It was there that they welcomed their three sons Taylor, Davis, and Drake, and where Roger became the Grandpa or “Coach” to four grandsons and a granddaughter.
Roger poured his heart into being a husband, a father, grandpa, and coach. He coached with conviction, lived with humility, and led his family with strength and unwavering dedication. He had a gift for making people feel seen, heard, and loved. He gave without expecting anything in return, whether it was time, advice, or just a listening ear.
He was a humble giant, a man whose presence brought steadiness and peace. He took seriously his role as provider and protector, and the impact of his love and leadership will ripple through generations.
While our hearts are heavy with the loss of him, we take comfort in knowing Roger is now worshiping our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with the same faith he lived out every day. His absence leaves a “Big Rog” sized hole in our lives that no one else could ever fill.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Terri; and his three sons, Taylor (36) and his wife Danielle and their son Jae; Davis (34) and his wife Erin and their sons Crosby, Peter, and Shepherd; and Drake (28) and his wife Lauren and their daughter Scottie.
