Ronald “Ron” Van Gelder, 75, beloved husband, father, and papa, unexpectedly departed this world for eternal life with Jesus on July 1, 2025. He was born in 1950 in Le Mars, IA to proud parents Raymond and Marjorie. Brother to Dennis, William, Merlin, and Curtis, Ron spent his childhood helping on the farm. He later discovered a love and talent for basketball, and he played center at Floyd Valley High School prior to his graduation in 1968.
He relocated to Denver in 1970, where he began a career in construction. In 1974, he married Cynthia Haddon, and together they welcomed a single daughter, Jennifer. Ron’s work ethic was remarkable, and he quickly moved into management roles. His work in the industry spanned over 40 years, during which time he worked on projects ranging from residential to commercial to federal.
A skilled craftsman, Ron took great pride in creating beautiful homes for his family. The more work needed, the better the transformation, and his renovations were incredible. Always one to have a vision for the possible, he eventually expanded his transformations into landscaping, creating stunning outdoor spaces spanning multiple climates including California, Arizona, and Colorado.
Following the death of his first wife, Ron married Ardyth “Ardy” Van Gelder in 2013, after which he became stepfather to Angela, Derek, and Stacy, and treasured papa to Aliya, Tysen and Braxton. Ardy was previously married to Ron’s cousin, David, who passed away in 2001.
Ron’s faith in Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of his life, regardless of the challenges and circumstances that he faced. Those closest to him enjoyed the gift of seeing his faith grow and change throughout his lifetime. A steadfast believer in the grace of God and salvation through Jesus Christ, Ron was confident in his faith and looked forward to being with Jesus for eternity. His greatest prayer for all people was that they, too, would come to know the love of Jesus and experience his indwelling spirit.
Ron is survived by his wife, Ardyth; his daughter Jennifer (Michael); his stepdaughter Angela; his stepson Derek (Stacy); his grandchildren, Aliya, Tysen, and Braxton; and by his brothers Dennis (Leslie), Merlin (Mary Beth), Curtis (Ann); and by many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Marjorie; his brother, William; and by his first wife, Cynthia.
His memory will be forever treasured by all who loved him.
