Ruby L. Griffin was born Ruby LaVonne Noland on November 4, 1934 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was the youngest of eight children born to Gennetta Florence Noland and Benjamin Harrison Noland. Her family moved to Denver, Colorado in 1939.
She met Norman Vernon Sigrist, shortly after he returned from World War II in 1949. They were married in 1950. The following year she gave birth to their son, Vernon; son Marty in 1953 and daughter, Sharon in 1955.
Tragedy struck September 6, 1958 when 28 year old Norman, working for the Denver & Rio Grande railroad, was killed in a work related accident. She found herself a widow at the age of 23 with three children, ages 3, 5, & 7. She found the strength to carry on through her faith in God, support of her parents and of the love and responsibility she had for her children.
She married Waymon Griffin in 1962 and moved to Lakewood in 1964 where they remained until his death December 30, 2006. Waymon “Griff” and Ruby owned and operated Griff’s Towing in Lakewood, CO.
