Samuel Andy Thomas William Todd, was born on December 11, 1925. He passed away on November 14, 2017 at the age of almost 92. He was the second child of his Mother, Hattie Lee Vanover and Father Sam Todd. Besides his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy, Florence, Gracie and his brothers, Willard, Gene and Robert.
Same leaves behind his wife off 44 years, Ruth Erlene and two daughters, Terry Smith in Logan, Utah and Brenda Lewis in Salt Lake City, Utah. Also 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and a great great grandson due in January.
Sam grew up in the Colorado Mining towns, spending most of his young life around Glenwood Springs. He started working in restaurants at a very early age and became an excellent cook and worked in kitchens in Colorado, California and on the Alaskan pipelines. Later he switched to construction and worked for several Construction companies on the water diversion tunnels.
Sam was in a car accident in 1975 that kept him at home from then on. He took up silversmithing and sold most all he made. He then took up wood carving and was very passionate about that for 30 years and again sold a lot of his eagles, elk, cardinal and Bronco bolo ties. He had to stop after he fell and broke his hip. He went from the hospital to Cherrelyn Healthcare Center and was there for 15 months before his passing. He missed his old life, friends and home but Cherrelyn is a very caring place to be when one requires a lot of assistance in their daily routine.
Samuel had a unique personality and was misunderstood many times. If he didn’t want to go with the crowd he would not go just to be sociable. He went home to his carvings or History channel TV. He wanted to do his thing. He also loved to eat. He enjoyed every steak meal, steak or beans. And he planned the next meal as he ate. He also loved to make people laugh, either with his jokes or his singing silly songs.
Sam’s wife says she feels like a half pair of scissors without her best friend.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary. Burial will be held in Olinger Chapel Hill Cemetery.
