Susan Kay Pye

January 18, 1954 – May 25, 2026
Obituary of Susan Kay Pye
IN THE CARE OF

Olinger Funeral, Cremation & Cemetery - Chapel Hill

Susan Kay Pye, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend, leader, and community advocate, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026, at the age of 72.

Susan was born on January 18, 1954, in Dodge City, Kansas, to Chester and Marjorie Hildebrand, and was raised in Stafford, Kansas. She later made her home in Centennial, Colorado, where she spent much of her life building community, creating lasting memories with family and friends, and caring deeply for those around her.

Known affectionately as the “hostess with the mostest,” Susan had a remarkable gift for bringing people together. Her home was always open, filled with laughter, music, dancing, good food, and the warmth that made everyone feel like family. She loved her family fiercely, adored her dogs, and found joy in every opportunity to celebrate life with the people she loved most.

Susan dedicated much of her life to serving her community. She proudly became the first First Lady of Centennial and was deeply involved in civic leadership, serving as Chairperson and President of South Suburban Parks and Recreation. Her passion for creating stronger communities and better opportunities for families left a lasting impact throughout the region.

Professionally, Susan was a trailblazer. She founded her own computer training company at a time when few women entered the technology field, sharing her knowledge and entrepreneurial spirit with countless others. Later, she traveled internationally as an instructor for Alcatel-Lucent, teaching and mentoring people around the world. Her intelligence, confidence, and ability to connect with others made her admired by colleagues and students alike.

Susan will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, generous heart, unwavering kindness, and the way she made people feel welcomed, valued, and loved. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the friendships she nurtured, and the community she helped shape.

Susan is survived by her loving husband, Randy Pye; her daughter, Heather Pye-Sarbaugh; her son-in-law, Steve Sarbaugh; and her cherished grandchildren, Sierra Sarbaugh and Hunter Sarbaugh.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Paws on the Ground Colorado (https://www.pawsonthegroundco.org/donations) in Susan's memory.
