Susan was born August 27 1941 in Ponca City, Oklahoma to John Oshal and Maxine Wittmer Suttle. She grew up there, raising goats named Silky Blanket and earning numerous awards from 4H. After a brief three years in Louisiana, where she graduated High School, she returned to Ponca City, where she took a job in banking. This was where she met Jim Wallace White whom she married on July 27, 1961. They remained married until his death 50 years later.
After living in such varied places as Panama, Maryland, Arkansas, Washington and Canada, the family, now including their son Jay and daughter Catherine settled in Denver in 1978. During the 1980’s, Susan founded WhiteHouse Collectables, an artisan textile business which she operated successfully for over a decade.
Susan was also an accomplished genealogist who was acknowledged as an expert in the Osage Allotments as well as Ioway tribal history. She had publication offers for this work, which she had to decline as she was caring for her parents in their later years. She still remained active in tribal activity until her last months.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Maxine as well as her beloved husband, Jim.
Susan is survived by her son, Jay White and his wife Gerri, and their daughters of Austin, TX, as well as by her daughter, Catherine White and her cats of Thornton, CO, along with her brother and sister in law, Jon and Becky Suttle of Lake Charles, LA. She is also survived by Jim’s siblings Jack, Della, Glen and Gary along with their families, and her cat, Punkin.
