Velma married the love of her life, Toribio Robert “Bob” Mestas, on July 2, 1970 in Pueblo, Colorado. She attended the University of Southern Colorado where she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology. Velma worked for Quest Diagnostics for 30 years in the fields of special chemistry and immunochemistry and was a member of the Medical Technology American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
Velma was passionate about sports; she loved going to Broncos and Rockies games, attending her children’s sports games and activities, playing golf, and swimming. Above all else, Velma loved spending time with her friends and family. She was a very loving and caring woman, who was always more than happy to put the needs of others before herself. Velma had an incredible work-ethic, was extremely intelligent, and was always a joy to be around. She will be missed in her role as a loving mother, devoted wife, passionate friend, and die-hard sports fan.
Velma is predeceased by her sister, Karen. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 48 years, Bob Mestas; her children, Jennifer Kealiher and Bobby (Megan) Mestas; grandchildren, Nolan and Morgan Mestas; and her nieces and nephews, Richard, Anthony, Mary Beth, Stephen, and Jesse.
A celebration of Velma’s life will be held on Monday, October 8, 2018 at 2:30 pm at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6601 S Colorado Blvd, Centennial, Colorado 80121. The family will then receive guests at a reception immediately following.
