Vera was born on January 12, 1922, in Fleming, Colorado, to Thomas M. and LaVida E. Brown. The family moved to Wray, Colorado, shortly after her birth and Vera lived on the family farm until her marriage. She graduated from Wray High school in 1939. Vera was married on May 18, 1940, to James Wernet and shortly after her marriage the family settled in Denver, Colorado, where she spent the remainder of her life.
During her early years Vera was a homemaker and loving mother insuring that her family attended church regularly. She loved the Lord with all of her heart and served Him faithfully her entire adult life as a greeter, sunday school teacher, and member of the choir. As an exceptional soloist she recorded several of her favorite hymns during her lifetime. Vera worked for 20 years as a customer service agent for Blue Cross/Blue Shield. She loved going to the family cabin in Bailey, Colorado, square dancing, bowling and was an avid knitter and crocheter.
Sadly, in later life, Vera developed severe dementia and her husband, David, lovingly took care of her for many years until he was no longer able to do so. They eventually moved into assisted living at Sunrise at Orchard, where she spent the remainder of her days until passing.
Vera was predeceased by her loving husband of 51 years, James Wernet. She was also predeceased by her son Stan, son-in-law Lowell Leigh, parents, Thomas and LaVida Brown, and siblings, Valda Andrew, Harold “Bud” Brown, and Iona Mansfield.
