Vickie Lou Regala will be deeply missed. She passed away unexpectedly on October 9th, 2025, at the age of 74 in the quiet of her home in Ewa Beach, a coastal suburb in the City and County of Honolulu on the beautiful island of Oahu in the state of Hawaii.
Her life began in Denver, Colorado. On October 26th, 1950, Vickie Lou McLaughlin was born into this world to Robert and Myrna (Netz) McLaughlin. But during her infancy, at an age too young for her to even remember, Robert McLaughlin passed away. Myrna married again soon after, to Melvin Schultz; and Vickie was legally adopted, receiving the full name Vickie Lou Schultz.
As a child, she traveled to many different states in the US and even to London, England, due to her father’s many years of service in the US Air Force. Later, as a young adult, she returned to Colorado and attained her bachelor’s degree at Colorado State. Right after she graduated from college, she traveled to Hawaii. There, on the big island of Hawaii, she met her lifelong friend and companion, John Gary Regala. She married John on November 30th, 1974. Together, they were blessed with two sons – Lance Anthony Regala and Kevin Blake Regala.
She homeschooled her children throughout most of their elementary school years. Her homeschooling community quickly recognized her as a gifted teacher. Those tireless pursuits in the field of education led to a certified career in children’s education. She became a credentialed elementary school teacher and a private tutor and even attained a professional license in the Montessori method of education.
Fitness and health were two of her greatest passions, both physical and mental. While living in Asheville, North Carolina, she helped build a CrossFit gym together with her son, Kevin. At her final home on Oahu, in retirement, she played pickleball and went to the gym regularly with her companion-for-life, John Gary. Among her other, many and various (and always constructive) pastimes and hobbies, she enjoyed knitting and crocheting, holistic medicine, and reading her Bible daily.
Vickie was blessed in life to play an active role in the lives of her grandchildren – Bear, Bella, Kaimana, and Kaheamalani. She traveled to Saipan, a remote place in the Northern Mariana Islands in the far western Pacific Ocean, just to be with her grandchildren and lived there for a time to help raise them.
Those who knew Vickie, without a doubt, will always remember her devout faith in Christ Jesus and her unwavering commitment to spread God’s love and keep His commandments. Although she can no longer be with us physically here on Earth, we know she awaits us now and that she genuinely hopes we will be together with her, joyously, in Heaven when that day comes.
Vickie Lou Regala is joined in Heaven on this fateful day by her adopted father, Melvin Schultz, who passed away only days after her passing. May he too rest in peace. She is preceded in death by her parents, Myrna Schultz and Robert McLaughlin.
Vickie is survived by her former husband and life partner, John Regala; son, Lance Regala; son, Kevin Regala and wife Makana Regala; grandchildren, Blake “Bear” Regala, Bella Regala, Kaimana Regala, and Kaheamalani Regala; nephews, Scott McKenzie, Bradley Schultz, Michael Beer, David Beer, and Eric Schultz; nieces, Janice (McKenzie) Radzikowski, Joy (McKenzie) Hirdler, Amber McKenzie, Amanda (Schultz) DiPentino, Anne (Schultz) Touzalin, and Katie (Schultz) Jackson.
Vickie is also survived by her sister Linda (Schultz) Schnering and brothers Gary Schultz and Gene Schultz.
A celebration of Vickie’s life is taking place at Littleton Seventh-Day Adventist Church, located at 7400 S Windermere St, Littleton, CO 80120, on October 29th, 2025, service and refreshments at 10:00 a.m. Viewing will be at 1 p.m. and graveside at 2 p.m. She will be laid to rest at Olinger Cemetery – Chapel Hill, Centennial, CO.
