Victor Barbieri

Victor Barbieri, of Lone Tree, Colorado, passed away in the presence of loved ones on August 29, 2026. He was 99. Victor was born in New York City on February 3rd, 1927 to Italian immigrants, Leonello Barbieri and Assunta Garbarino Barbieri. After growing up in Greenwich Village, Victor served in the Navy in World War II. Afterwards, he attended the University of Kentucky where he earned a degree in Engineering.

Traveling even farther west, Victor took a job with Douglas Aircraft in Los Angeles where he met his future wife Sandra Briscoe Barbieri. Vic and Sandy, as they were fondly known by their friends, married in 1958. After leaving Douglas, Victor took a job at Shell and would remain a steadfast employee there for thirty years. Together, Victor and Sandra had four children and lived as oil industry nomads, crisscrossing from Santa Monica to San Diego to Rockland County (NY) to Houston to Long Island and back to Houston again!

Victor was a devoted and hardworking husband and father. When he wasn't working, he loved taking his family on long road trips. At home, he liked to read, listen to music, and watch tennis matches on TV. He would often position a lawn chair a couple of feet from the screen and yell at the umpires if he disagreed with their calls.

After Victor retired from Shell, he and Sandra had a house built on the edge of the Rocky Mountain National Park in Estes Park, Colorado. From there they took many trips to Europe, as well as trips to Mexico, Hawaii and South America. Every February or March, they would rent a house in Pacific Grove, California and invite their adult children and grandchildren to join them there.

Eventually they moved down to Fort Collins, Colorado where they enjoyed a leisurely life in a house overlooking a golf course.

Victor is survived by his wife Sandra, their daughter Therese Portillo, and sons Michael Barbieri (married to Tammy) and Mark Barbieri (married to Kathy). He was preceded in death by his daughter Yvette Menking (married to Rod).

He was a cherished grandfather to Amber, Ashley, Michelle, Elizabeth, William, Allyson, Joel, Marissa, Jenna, Dante, and Erik. He was also the proud great-grandfather of Aubrey, Lucy, Peyton, and Nicholas, with a new great grandbaby on the way.

Vic's generous and enthusiastic spirit will be forever remembered and greatly missed by his entire family.
