On February 15, 1974 he married Leann Light and together they had two children, Tamara and Carlene.
Walter and Leann enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling together. There were also many weekends spent driving to the mountains to scour ghost towns with a metal detector.
He enjoyed all modes of transportation and owned his own business at age 25. At one point he had a horse, a motorcycle, a truck and camper, a car and a dune buggy.
Walter’s special interests were photography, woodworking, computer programming and tinkering in his shop. He always aimed to make everything better. This usually required a lot of duct tape.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, his daughters Tamara and Carlene, his grandchildren Emily, Timothy and Chelsey, two sisters Phyllis and MaryAnn, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by parents Carl and Elizabeth, brothers Richard and Donald and his sister Lois.
