Wayne R. Beeks, 80, passed away May 17, 2019 in Parker, Colorado, of natural causes. He was born on February 8, 1939 to Robert Beeks and Dorothy Peterson in Underwood, North Dakota. Wayne was raised and graduated from high school in Washburn, North Dakota. He graduated from Washburn High School in 1957. Following 6 months of active duty in the Army Reserves, he attended the University of North Dakota and earned a Bachelors in Mining Engineering with Petroleum Option in 1962. He married Kathleen Steinway in 1961. Together he and Kathleen had three children, Douglas, Christopher and Charlotte. Wayne and Kathleen divorced in 1969. He married Karen Bartels on May 22, 1971 in Williston, North Dakota. Karen had two daughters, Karlona and Kristen, who Wayne adopted in 1981. Together Karen and Wayne had daughter, Kandyce, born in 1972, while they lived in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Following graduation in 1962, and until 1972, Wayne worked as a Petroleum Engineer for Amerada Hess in Oklahoma and North Dakota. He was also Chief Engineer in Calgary, Alberta. From 1972-1975, Wayne worked as a senior engineer for IIAPCO in Jakarta, Indonesia. His family accompanied him to Indonesia. From 1975-1982, Wayne worked in a variety of positions for H.K. Van Poollen and Associated, and Keplinger and Associates, who were international petroleum consulting companies. He worked on projects all over the world. In 1982, Wayne formed his own consulting company. He and Karen returned to Jakarta in 1991 for 2 years where he was employed by Southern Cross as a Senior Engineer. From 1993-2001, Wayne resumed consulting on a limited basis. Prior to Karen's death in 2007, she always accompanied Wayne in his travels throughout Asia, Australia, Europe, and Central America.
Wayne is survived by his sons, Douglas and Christopher Beeks; daughters, Kandyce Beeks, Kristen (Darwin) Horan, Karlona (Boris) Dimoff, and Charlotte Beeks; sister, Kareen (Gary) Noon; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family members. His wife, parents, and an infant brother preceded Wayne in death. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 1st, 2019 at 10AM at Olinger Chapel Hill Cemetery in Centennial, Colorado.
