

He was born on November 15, 1930 in Des Moines, IA, the son of Effie (Paiste) and Emmett Brobst. Survivors include his wife, Allene (Hays) Brobst; daughter, Laurie (Jeff) Hanson; son, Steven (Margaret Schroeder) Brobst; sister, Pat Weissinger; two grandchildren, Mckenna and Isaac Hanson and sister-in-law Amy Brobst, along with numerous nieces and nephews and his faithful dog Patch. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jim and Bob Brobst.
A Celebration of William's Life will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary. Bill grew up in Des Moines, Iowa with his parents, older sister Pat and younger brothers Jim and Bob. Bill graduated from Roosevelt High School before going on to Drake University (both in Des Moines, Iowa) for 1 1/2 years before joining the US Air Force for 4 years, two of those in Japan as a cryptographer during the Korean war, after which he returned to Drake University to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Economics.
After graduating from Drake he moved to Colorado, where he worked as the stationary buyer for The Denver. He also bought in Europe and the Orient for the entire Associated Dry Goods chains. Bill worked as the store manager at The Denver in Northglen and later went on to become the operations manager and an associate store manager of The Denver in Cherry Creek. It was while working at The Denver that he met his wife of 52 years, Allene. He was retired from The May Company in 1988.
Bill and Allene married in April of 1964 and made their home in Englewood, Colorado, where the had 2 children, Laurie and Steven; whom he never stopped teaching and loving. His daughter and son-in-law made him a grandfather of Mckenna and Isaac, who were the joys of his life.
Bill and Allene have owned several rental houses over the years where Bill was able to enjoy working on the houses while also being a landlord, mentor, and friend to many of the tenants and his children.
Bill also enjoyed traveling and was able to visit Mexico several times; where he enjoyed walking the beaches, and talking and bartering with the local vendors. He enjoyed traveling to Europe, Alaska, Hawaii and many of the other 50 states and enjoyed taking cruises when possible.
Bill believed in the Golden Rule and practiced it. He never met a "stranger" and always enjoyed company and having a good laugh and some romance.
He was a successful businessman, loving husband, father and grandfather, good friend and caring landlord. He will be truly missed.
