Albert was born on July 31, 1949, in Monmouth, Illinois, to the late Edward and Norma (Britton) Motta. He later moved to Connecticut, where he lived a full life rooted in family, hard work, and service to his country.
Al dedicated 6 years to the U.S. Marine Corps, followed by 17 years in the National Guard. He worked as a skilled machinist at The Lee Company for 35 years, where he took great pride in his craft and formed lasting friendships.
Outside of work and service, Al found joy in life's simple pleasures. He was an avid reader and loved walking on the beach with his wife, working on puzzles, and spending time outdoors tending to his vegetable garden and rose bushes. Most of all he loved being a dedicated husband, dad, and grandpa.
Al leaves behind his high school sweetheart and wife of 49 years, Diane (Costa) Motta. He was a devoted father to his 4 daughters: Maureen (Vincent) Zarrella of Old Lyme, Lorraine (Michael) Doss of McKinney, Texas, Sheri (Chris) Pullen of Clinton, and Kimberly Motta of Deep River. He was the proud grandfather of 5 grandchildren, Lain, Miranda, Cierra, Alanna, and Jacob. He is also survived by his sisters, Ellia (Louis) Mozzochi of Deep River, CT, Peggy Luce of Linesville, Pennsylvania, and Barbara Swiantek of Arizona, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.
Visitation will be held on Thursday June 18 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home. Memorial service will be celebrated on Friday June 19 at 9:30 AM at the Deep River Congregational Church, followed by burial in Riverside Cemetery in Old Saybrook. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital (stjude.org) or Community Speaks Out (communityspeaksout.org).
