Beverly "Cubby" Temelini of Old Saybrook, Connecticut, passed into God's hands on April 28, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on August 4, 1934, she was the daughter of the late H. Guy ("Bud") Hirschfeld and Annie (Hull) Bialek.
Like her mother before her, Cubby loved living in the "old" Old Saybrook. She grew up at Old Saybrook Point and as a young girl loved boats, the beach, the shore and helping her grandparents "Ma" and "Pa" Hull with their fish market on the Connecticut River. She met her future husband Charlie at the Pease House at the Point, married him in 1956, and spent the rest of her life in the house they built on Otis Street. She graduated from Old Saybrook High School in 1952 and was the last living member of her class.
Cubby had a natural talent for organization and numbers. She worked for many years at Hartford National Bank in Old Saybrook and later served as bookkeeper for Charlie's businesses, including the Atlantic, Shell, and Esso/Exxon stations. She was an active member of Saint John Church in Old Saybrook for over 25 years, volunteering her time and assisting the clergy with numerous parish activities.
She loved gardening, flowers, birds, and one of her true passions was art. She could draw, paint, knit, sew, build, and write. She could not sing.
Cubby was one of those true New Englanders built from grit and stubborn determination. She was ornery, opinionated, direct, helpful, kind, compassionate, loyal, and a good listener. Cubby loved the underdogs. She was fond of telling anyone who would listen that she would never end up in a nursing home. She was right. Last year during one of her many hospital stays she told the doctor "I like life. I like to be around to bother people!" She was one of a kind, and will be missed.
She is survived by her sons, Stephen and his wife Susan of Redding, Connecticut, and David and his wife Eleanor of Roslindale, Massachusetts; her beloved grandchildren, Ariana, Kaya, and Charlie; and her siblings, Sharon Hmielewski and Bruce Hirschfeld. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Temelini, and her daughter-in-law, Joanne Fortuna Temelini.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Middlesex Hospital for their compassionate care during Cubby's many visits and stays. They also offer heartfelt thanks to Perla Carrillo, Karen Meeks, Paul Loomis, and Dave and Pat DeMay for their exceptional support and kindness over the years.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 7 at Saint John Church in Old Saybrook, with a burial to follow at Cypress Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint John Church.
