Raised in New Britain, CT, Georgene attended Connecticut Teachers College and devoted 34 years to teaching kindergarten at Chester Elementary School, helping to lay the educational foundation for generations of local children. After her retirement, former students would often stop her around town to say hello and reminisce, something that brought her great joy.
She spent nearly all of her life living on Cedar Lake Terrace where she made lifelong friends and neighbors. She was fiercely independent, loved watching NASCAR, was an avid reader, and was a true animal lover; feeding the birds, squirrels, and terrace wildlife.
Georgene also had a love of travel and enjoyed many cross-country adventures, especially to New Mexico, Frankenmuth, MI, Branson, MO, Cape Cod, MA, and Newport, RI. She also enjoyed traveling by train.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest F. Albrecht, and her son, Kevin Albrecht. She is survived by her daughter, Lora Hires, and granddaughters, Melanie Albrecht Peterson, Audrey Albrecht, and Jennifer Hires, as well as several cousins and extended family.
Interment was held in the Cedar Lake Cemetery in Chester, CT.
In lieu of flowers, at Georgene’s request, memorial donations may be made to the Crazy Horse Memorial, 12151 Avenue of the Chiefs, Crazy Horse, SD 57730 or to a local animal rescue organization of your choice.
