Guy Heath Deutermann 83, of Essex, Connecticut passed away peacefully in his home Tuesday, April 23, 2024. Born July 30, 1940 in White Plains, NY, he was the son of Theodore and Marjorie (Heath) Deutermann.
Guy was a veteran of the United States Navy and a member the Westbrook Honor Guard, Old Lyme VFW, 2'''’ generation owner of Mamaroneck Boats and Motors which inspired many hobbies starting with boating. At an early age, growing up in the boating industry, he gained love and respect for the water which he passed on to his children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His life revolved around boating and family.
He was a teacher and a mentor to many. He had a passion for wooden boats, some of his projects include restoring the Querida 1933 Marble Head, later the Sea Wagon starting with a 36’ 42’ Grand Banks and ending with 60’ Huckins. He and his grandson Cody with the help of daughter Debra built a wooden runabout and called it Rascal. He worked hard on all his boating projects and played harder starting a catch phrase “Boating is Fun” that is still used in slogans at the boatyard today which is currently ran by 3'd generation owner son Scott. He loved skiing, snow and water, his favorite saying was “ski me till I drop”
Another great love was motorcycles, He enjoyed restoring older bikes to the point he added an addition to his home to set up a workshop in the living room. From Harley’s to Indians, he loved to ride, at age 80 he modified his beloved motorcycle into a trike to keep riding. Another great love was racing, he and his brother Charles started Deuterrnann Brothers Racing Team in which they enjoyed many years of racing unique antique cars together and he enjoyed motocross. Music, he enjoyed learning to play many instruments over the years, played taps on his bugle at dusk.
He enjoyed game fishing in Montauk and big game hunting with friends in Colorado. Go big or go home he liked to say.
