Joyce was born on August 4, 1937, and spent much of her life in Deep River, where she raised her family and became an active member of the community. In her later years, she resided at Aaron Manor in Chester. The family would like to thank the staff at Aaron Manor for their loving care and commitment to Joyce for the time she was with them.
Joyce enjoyed a long career in banking, retiring approximately 20 years ago as an assistant manager. Her retirement gave her more time to devote to the family, community, and activities that were so important to her.
A longtime parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Chester, Joyce served as a Eucharistic Minister and was active in the church’s Women’s Guild. Her commitment to her community extended well beyond the church. She volunteered with the Deep River Historical Society and was a member of the Friends of the Deep River Library.
Joyce believed in staying active and rarely seemed to slow down. Over the years, she enjoyed Zumba, Jazzercise, and walking. But among the things that brought her the greatest joy was being part of the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She could often be found on the sidelines or in the stands at her grandchildren’s sporting events, proudly supporting them and sharing in their accomplishments.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Hines, her parents Ruth Molander (Calamari) Towler and Louis Calamari, her stepfather Leslie Towler. She was also predeceased by her siblings Joan Waterman, Bill Towler, Robert Calamari, Dorry Hagedorn and Jean Potts.
Joyce is survived by her sister Kathy Fox and her husband Dick, her three children and their spouses: Craig Hines and his wife, Cassie, of Leesburg, Florida; Patrick Hines and his wife, Janet, of Deep River, Connecticut, and Boynton Beach, Florida; and Julie Steele (Hines) and her husband, Jonathan, of Ivoryton, Connecticut. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who will carry forward many memories.
