Kevin Paul Jermainne, age 66, enjoyed his final round of golf with his buddies on Friday May 1, 2026, a beautiful spring day. He suffered a cardiac arrest and later died peacefully at Hartford Hospital on Thursday May 7, 2026. His wife and family would like to thank all the first responders, doctors and nurses at both Backus Hospital and Hartford Hospital for attempting to bring Kevin back to his family and friends. Those final days were time for visits and goodbyes before Kevin was reunited with his parents Vincent and Elizabeth Jermainne.
Kevin was a lifelong resident of Chester, CT. Growing up on South Wig Hill Rd. Kevin had a fun childhood with his siblings and all the neighborhood kids playing ball, riding bikes, sledding, skating, camping and fishing. He graduated from Valley Regional High School in 1977 leaving behind a distinguished athletic career. He was a natural athlete that came to practice to have fun and didn’t need to put in the extra hard training. At track practice he and his good friend Steve Halibozek would stand 40 yards apart and play catch with a javelin while others were working hard to improve their skills. Kevin was an All-Shoreline Defensive Tackle in football, 2-time Shoreline Conference Heavyweight Wrestling Champion and was the winner of several medals at the Shoreline Track and Field Championships in 1976-1977. He also held the school record for the Discus Throw at Valley Regional for many years.
After Kevin graduated from high school he chose to work as a union bridge carpenter, working years on major projects like the Q-Bridge in New Haven. He was a valued employee who was asked many times to accept a promotion to foreman, but each time he declined. He’d rather enjoy his job than take on the added worry of that position. He retired at 62 giving him the past four years to play golf and spend time with his friends and family. Kevin was very relaxed and never in a rush. He was calm, cool and collected in all situations. He always had a kind word, and everyone loved him.
Kevin is survived by his wife Randee, her son Ben Rayder, his grandson Ayden Rayder. He was predeceased by Randee’s son William Rayder. He is also survived by his sister Candice Dopp (Douglas), Robert Jermainne, Brian Jermainne (Leslie). Kevin was very proud of his nieces Brittany Jermainne and Abby Conslo, and his nephews Kevin Dopp, Benjamin Jermainne and Brian R Jermainne. He was very close with his cousin Keith LaFlair and had a great relationship with all of his other cousins and lifelong friends who are shocked and deeply saddened to lose such a vibrant and kind man as Kevin. On the last day of April Kevin had coffee with his brother Brian and shared during conversation that he was “happy with his life”. He didn’t second guess the choices he had made and was thoroughly enjoying the life he was leading. He said he “loved his life”. He loved his wife, his friends and family, playing golf, meeting up with friends at Calamari’s or the Swede Club, “the shop” or anywhere else to spend time with those he loved. Although 66 years was way too short a time, the amount of happiness and enjoyment Kevin packed into that time should be a model for the rest of us going forward.
Services will be held at St. Joseph's Church in Chester on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at 11:00 AM. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Kevin’s name to Mealsonwheelsamerica.org or Shorelinesoupkitchens.org.
