Margaret Ann Dacundo, a beloved wife, mother, Nana, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2025, following a long illness. While our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that she is finally at rest and free from the pain she carried with immense grace.
Born on December 14, 1952, to John (Jack) and Margaret (Marge) O’Mara of Elmsford, NY, Margaret was the oldest of six children. In her youth, she possessed a wild spirit and a zest for life that earned her the legendary nickname 'Crazy Maggie' —a title she wore with pride and carried as a badge of honor throughout her life. This same spark became her greatest gift: a steadfast refusal to let the weight of the world dim her spirit. She moved through life with a playful heart and the beautiful ability to transform the mundane into the memorable. Whether navigating a long wait in line or a rainy afternoon, she always found the hidden humor in the moment, reminding us all through her laughter that life is far too precious to be taken too seriously.
Above all else, her family was her world. She is survived by her devoted husband Robert (Bob), three daughters Lisa Aufiero (Brian), Christina Dacundo-Josse and Lauren Lynch (Jeremy) who carry her strength and spirit, and seven grandchildren, Mariah, Dominic, Jack, Bobby, Leonardo, Augustus and Elise Margaret, who were the absolute lights of her life. To her grandkids, she wasn't just Nana, she was a source of endless fun, treats, and "Crazy Maggie" stories.
Margaret found joy in the simple and the beautiful. She was a master of her garden, spending countless hours tending to her flowers and watching things grow. Her love for food was legendary; whether it was a home-cooked meal or a favorite treat, she savored every bite and every moment shared around the table. She especially cherished beach vacations, where she was surrounded by the family she loved and the sound of the ocean.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, whom she has now joined in eternal rest and her sister-in-law Denise and brother-in-law Tom, were her kindred spirits. She leaves behind a community of friends and extended family who will deeply miss her laughter and vibrant presence.
We will remember Margaret whenever we see a garden in full bloom or hear a joke told with that unmistakable twinkle in the eye.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Saturday, January 3, 2026 from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home (34 Main St., Essex, CT). A short funeral service will be held immediately following at 1:00pm in the same location.
