Maria was actively involved in her children’s lives until she became ill with schizophrenia in 1985. Once that became manageable, she enjoyed being around her immediate and extended family and sang them Italian songs, her favorite song was about butterflies.
Maria loved with all her heart, and she often expressed this love with home-cooked meals. She poured her heart into every meal she made, every meatball, every ricotta zeppole, every chicken cutlet, every string of spaghetti. Maria’s Sunday sauce was legendary, talked about by many and she was the master of her kitchen. Champagne made her giggle and Piña Colada’s transported her to a younger era.
She also enjoyed knitting scarves for her family and friends, playing card matching games, coloring, watching Classic movies and listening to Italian songs and Italian singers like Massimo Ranieri. Maria loved to dance and sing and she loved wearing bright colors and sparkle jewelry, that matched the sparkle in her eyes when seeing the people she loved.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Service at Robertson Wright & Weymer Funeral Home in Centerbrook, CT on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at 10am. Visitation will begin at 10am, followed by her burial at Resurrection Cemetery in Westbrook, CT.
