

Newman Carlton "Gup" Guptill, 86, passed away Saturday July 13, 2013 at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale, FL. He was born May 31, 1927 in Machiasport, ME. Mr. Guptill was a resident of Bartow, FL for the past 26 years, moving from Old Saybrook. He was a WWII Veteran, serving in the Merchant Marines and a Navy Veteran of the Korean War from 1951-1955.He was a field supervisor for North East Utilities for 37 years, after his retirement to Florida he was a visitation associate for the Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow for over 19 years. He also was a parishioner of St. Thomas Church in Bartow, FL, Past President twice of the Floral Lakes Homeowners Assoc., member of the American Legion Post #3. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Dorothy (Fitzgerald) Guptill, his daughter Tammy Kenyon and her husband Kim of East Lyme, a son Timothy Guptill of Bartow; four grandchildren Michelle Guptill of Tampa, FL, Timothy Guptill Jr.and his wife Teresa of Tampa, FL, Shelby Kenyon of East Lyme & Ashley Costa and her husband Alex of East Lyme, 3 great grandchildren, nephews; Donald and his wife Kris Guptill & Douglas Bramble, nieces Kerry Kosky and Barbara Bramble. Visitation will be held at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St .Centerbrook from 9:30-10:30am on Wednesday, July 17th. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11am from St. John's Church, Main St. Old Saybrook. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Old Saybrook, with full military honors.
