Patricia Starr Jones passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City with her family by her side. “Patsy” was 78. Her noble fight in her last year was inspirational. Born August 7, 1945, in New York City, Patsy’s family soon moved to Bernardsville, N.J.
Patsy spent her childhood years between Bernardsville and Antigua, where her parents, Ogden Parrish Starr and Patricia Morrill Starr, owned Alexander Parrish (Antigua) Limited. Patsy’s mother later teamed up with her brother, Amos Morrill, to establish the Coco Shop, noted for its Sea Island cotton printed island wear.
Patsy attended the Antigua Girls’ High School and Miss Porter’s School in Farmington, Connecticut. She graduated in 1963 and matriculated at Garland Junior College before becoming a fashion editor at Town & Country magazine.
Family was the center of Patsy’s world. She married Samuel Benjamin Jones in 1967, and they had a great love story. Patsy and Sam settled in New Canaan, Connecticut, where they raised their two sons, Banc and Chris. Patsy’s passion was watching her boys play sports and hosting their friends.
The family spent the summers in Fenwick, Connecticut, where Patsy was very involved in the children’s summer programs and the Borough of Fenwick’s Historical Society. She loved spending time in her peony garden and hosting ice cream parties for her four grandchildren.
Patsy also loved getting back to her roots at the family’s home at the Mill Reef Club in Antigua, where Patsy’s grandparents and parents were founding members. Following her family’s tradition, Patsy was a long-standing board member of the Club. Mill Reef was a special place for Patsy, where she especially loved her swims with her grandchildren and watching her boys sailing and fishing. She had deep love and respect for all animals, notably the elephants in Thailand and Africa and the birds in her garden in Antigua, and she always had a treat for every dog she encountered.
Patsy is survived by her husband Samuel, sons Bancroft (Morgan) and Christopher (Penelope), Grandchildren Lucy, Olivia, Samuel, and Maggie, brothers Ogden Starr (Duncan) and Michael Starr (Marie), and nieces Christina and Jennifer Starr.
The family plans to celebrate her life privately later in the year.
