Richard A. Czepiel

Richard Allan Czepiel, age 82, of Deep River, CT, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2024. Richard was born in Middletown, CT on January 28, 1942 to Joseph and Helen (Mucha) Czepiel, and lived his entire life in Deep River.

Richard graduated from Valley Regional High School in 1960. After high school, he received his Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts. In 1982, he began employment with the town of Deep River, and spent 25 years working at the transfer station until his retirement in 2007.

In 1980, Richard traveled to Acapulco, Mexico. There, he met the love of his life, Maria Guadalupe Arteaga Silva. After marrying in 1981, they made their home in Deep River.

An avid sports fan, Richard loved UConn women’s basketball, the New York Yankees, the New York Giants, but above all else - his family. Richard treated his family and friends with the utmost care and respect - except while playing the card game Phase 10, when he allowed his cutthroat competitive spirit to shine.

He is survived by his loving wife Maria, daughter Mary Ann (Kevin Creary) Lewandowski, granddaughter Portia Lewandowski, sister Patricia Czepiel, brother Peter (Denise) Czepiel, sister-in-law Eva Czepiel, nephew Peter (Stacey) Czepiel, niece Tina (Marc) Pisciotti, and nephew Matthew (Jaime) Czepiel.

Richard was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Helen, as well as his brother Joseph Czepiel.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main Street in Centerbrook. Richard’s Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at Saint Joseph Church, 48 Middlesex Ave in Chester.
