Roger William Scott

Roger William Scott, known to most as "Scotty," passed away early morning on August 15th, 2026. He was a lifelong resident of the Connecticut River Valley, born on September 11, 1938. Roger spent his childhood in Old Saybrook and the last 30 years with his son Sean in Deep River.

Scotty was the son of the late Wallace G. Scott and Harriet (Palm) Scott. He came from a large close-knit family, and that sense of connection shaped everything about the way he lived his life. He was the one who would show up early morning at your door with a load of fresh fish or a package of venison, just because he knew you'd enjoy it. If your car broke down or you were short of funds, you could count on Scotty to lend a hand without a second thought.

For 35 years, Scotty made his living as a truck driver for Westbrook Block, earning a reputation as a dependable, hardworking man. But his real passions were out on the Connecticut River or deep in the woods. He was an avid fisherman and boater who loved every minute spent on the water. He was a dedicated hunter who was proud to have taken numerous trophy whitetail deers. When he wasn't outdoors, you could usually find him in his workshop tinkering with small engines and equipment, or holding court with one of his legendary stories. Scotty could spin a tale like nobody else.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Roger Jr.; his brothers Ronald Scott and Noel Scott; and his sister Fannie Steinson. He is survived by his children, Michael G. Scott, of Maine, Valerie (& Steven) Wyzykowski, of Haddam,Sean (& Jennifer) Scott, of Deep River and Rhonda (& Anish) Shah, of East Lyme, his brothers Wallace, Lester, David, and Gary Scott; his sisters Olive Meakem, Patty Everett, Diane Perkins, and Barbara Anne Pagano. Roger has 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives he touched.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Connecticut River Conservancy in memory of Roger Scott to support the protection and restoration of the Connecticut River and its tributaries.
