Barbara was welcomed into eternal rest with open arms by her beloved husband, Frederick Albert Gerke, who preceded her in death on July 5, 2012. Together they shared 54 wonderful years of marriage, building a life centered on love, family, faith, and devotion.
Barbara was a kind, thoughtful, and generous woman whose love touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she treasured her family above all else. She was also a dear friend to many and will be deeply missed for her warm heart, unwavering support, and caring spirit.
She is survived by her loving sons, Frederick William Gerke and his spouse, Marianne Wilhelmina Speckmann, and Michael Richard Gerke. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Fredrik Johan Gerke and Michael Chase Meche and his spouse, Cori Meche; and her beloved great-grandchild, River Michael Meche, along with many extended family members and friends who will forever hold her memory close.
Barbara found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid gardener and loved feeding and watching birds. Her creative talents were evident in her crocheting, knitting, and quilting, and she delighted family and friends with her baking. Through these hobbies, she shared her warmth, creativity, and love with those around her.
A faithful member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Holbrook, New York, Barbara was active in her church community and drew strength and comfort from her faith throughout her life.
Barbara’s legacy of love, kindness, generosity, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Though she will be greatly missed, her family takes comfort in the many treasured memories she leaves behind.
