It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward A. Weingartner Jr., lovingly known as “Eddie Railroad,” who departed this life on August 14, 2025, at the age of 88. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his devoted family.
Born on February 4, 1937, in Jamaica, Queens, Eddie made Lake Ronkonkoma his home in 1965, where he and his beloved wife Maureen—his partner of 50 years—raised their family. Maureen preceded him in death, and together they shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and adventure.
A proud and loving father, Eddie leaves behind his daughters Helen Gadinis (late Gary) and Susan Weingartner, and was a cherished grandfather to William "Billy" Gadinis and Kevin Melillo Jr. He is also survived by his dear sister Laraine Freedell (Warren), sisters-in-law Josephine Melton-McGovern and Dianne Melton, and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.
Eddie will always be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his fighting spirit, and his warm and generous heart.
He and Maureen found joy in traveling to Myrtle Beach and spending time at their vacation home in the Poconos. Ed enjoyed the outdoors—skiing, golfing, and fishing—and his zest for life was apparent in everything he did.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 17, 2025, from 2–4 PM and 7–9 PM. A Funeral Mass will take place on Monday at 10 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church, 800 Portion Road, Lake Ronkonkoma, NY 11779. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
Edward A. Weingartner Jr.’s legacy of love, strength, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
