Jennie Burckhardt

Burckhardt, Vincenza (Jennie), of Centereach, NY on February 19, 2012 . She was born on January 8, 1922, the only daughter of the late Antonio and Lucia Manitta of Centereach, NY. Jennie was predeceased by her four brothers, Philip, Jerome, Joseph, and Peter. She attended local schools and graduated from Smithtown High School in 1939. On July 29, 1945, she married Arnold C. Burckhardt of Centereach, who pre deceased her on February 24, 1968. She worked at SUNY Stony Brook beginning in 1975 and, as a Supervising Janitor at Stony Brook University Hospital, where she earned the UH Employee of the Month Award in March 1989 and retired in March 29, 1991. Jennie grew up on her parents farm and loved to garden. She was an excellent cook and accomplished seamstress. She was a member of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Centereach where she served on the Rosary Altar Society. She enjoyed long drives and visiting her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her warm smile and generosity. Jennie is survived by two daughters, Lucy Quirk and her husband Dennis, Jeanne Pryor and her husband Richard, of Becket, MA, and a son, Arnold Burckhardt and his wife, Patricia; six grandchildren, Denise Neinburg and her husband, Ted, Michael Quirk, Steven Quirk and his wife, Jennifer, Scott Ward and his wife, Michelle, Shane Ward of Becket, MA, and Christine Burckhardt; five great-grandchildren, Emily Christopher, Aiden, Caitlyn, and Scotty; and many nieces and nephews. Reposing at the O.B. Davis Funeral Homes, 2326 Middle Country Road, Centereach, NY 11720. Visitation Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass Wednesday 10:30 AM at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary R.C. Church, Centereach, NY. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Coram, NY.
