Charles Burnell Browning was born on February 4, 1947 in Baton Rouge, La. He was a lifelong resident of Central and died peacefully at his home on July 10, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Charles was a longtime member of Electricians Local 995. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Jane Browning; son Quincy (Stacey) Browning; daughter Lacosta Browning; grandchildren Shane (Jordan), Madison, Dyson and Mariska; great-grandson Zane; bonus daughter Karen (Ronnie); bonus grandchildren Christa (Shane) and Charlie (Sara); bonus great-grandchildren Shane Jr, Kaleb, Brock, Gunner and Duke. He is survived by one brother Bobby and four sisters Meryl, Aline, Joyce and Lois. Charles was preceded in death by his parents Willie H. and Cibell Cook Browning; four brothers, Edward, Vernon, Derry and Roger and two sisters Mildred and Dorothy.
Growing up on Sullivan Road, the youngest of 12 within the Browning compound which included Greenwell Springs Road and Sullivan Road, he was surrounded by a bevy of sisters, brothers, cousins, aunts and uncles. He grew up working in the garden, playing football or softball in somebody's back yard, and swimming in the Comite River. Within his family and extended family, he learned to work hard, give unselfishly, and love unconditionally.
Charles was soft-spoken. During family work days or celebrations, he worked quietly in the background and was always the first to lend a hand to help prepare and the very first to jump in and help with cleanup.
Charles loved his guitar-picking time. While growing up he could always be found in his favorite spot on the front porch strumming his favorite George Jones or Hank Williams tear-jerker. His guitar playing was interrupted only once during his younger years when he fell out of the persimmon tree, broke his arm and injured his picking fingers. He also loved a good fire. Whenever a family member or neighbor was clearing land and had a fire, Charles was always invited and would spend the day and well into the night gathering sticks to keep the fire going. He was not nearly as fond of cutting grass - but was faithful alongside Mary Jane in always keeping a manicured lawn.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 30th at Zoar Baptist Church in Central, La. from 9am-11am with
services starting at 11am. Burial will follow at Sandy Creek Baptist Church cemetery in Pride, La. After the burial, all are invited to attend a celebration of Charles' life which will be held at The Barn On Blueberry Hill in Clinton, La.
We would like to send a heartfelt Thank You to his doctors, family, friends, St. Joseph Hospice and
Danny A. who all lovingly helped and cared for him until the end.
