Jillwyn Margaret Adams Jones, 83, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was born on October 29, 1942, in Minden, Louisiana, to Edgar and Iris Adams, and lived a life filled with curiosity, compassion, and dedication to those she loved.
Jillwyn grew up with a bright mind and a strong love for learning. She graduated from Berwick High School in 1960 and went on to attend Nicholls State University, taking classes in business and accounting.
From 1973 to 2007, she made her home in Haile, Louisiana, where she raised her family and pursued her calling in healthcare.
Driven by her passion for caring for others, Jillwyn became a Licensed Practical Nurse and later returned to college—graduating at the top of her class from Louisiana Tech University in February 1994 at age 51—to become a Registered Nurse. She went on to have a long and meaningful nursing career, specializing in geropsychiatric care, where her empathy and skill touched countless lives.
Jillwyn’s talents extended far beyond her professional life. A gifted seamstress, she provided custom alterations and created beautiful clothing and home décor for friends and loved ones. Her kitchen was a place of love and connection—her weekly cake baking, elaborate Sunday dinners, and beautifully decorated birthday cakes became treasured traditions for family and friends. She loved to travel, especially cruising with her sister Bonzy and dear friends, and she found great joy in attending community theater and cheering on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at their many activities. She had a rare ability to make people feel cherished, especially her grandchildren, who adored her deeply.
Jillwyn is survived by her daughters, Robin Norman (Rusty) and April Chandler (Jeff); her grandchildren, Lindy Snell Christensen (Nathan), Keith Snell (Erica), Kelsey Herring (Dallas), Allison Snell Berry (Wayne), Katie Vance (Justin), Valerie Snell (Sean), and Kristen Wood (Spencer); and her great-grandchildren, Everley and Jonah Christensen; Caden and Harper Snell; Aidyn and Madison McDaniel; Dawson, Carson, and Sidney Herring; Reece and Genevieve Smith; Hallie Jo Cromwell; and Avery Wood. She is also survived by her brother Digby Adams, sister Bronwyn Hogan, nieces Heather, Amber, and Kelley, and her lifelong friend Patricia Kiffe.
She is preceded in death by her husband, R. L. Jones; her mother, Iris Trout Adams; her father, Edgar Adams; and her son-in-law, David Snell.
A memorial reception celebrating Jillwyn’s life will be held on December 7, 2025, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. at Haile Baptist Church, 262 Haile Baptist Church Rd, Marion, Louisiana.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Dementia Society of America, the Louisiana Tech Nursing Department, or a charity of your choice.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Wayne and Allison Berry, Toni Williams, CNA, and Maggie Wilson for their devoted and loving care of their beloved Memaw.
May Jillwyn’s legacy of kindness, strength, and generosity continue to inspire all who knew her.
