On Sunday, November 12, Mark Stephen Vetter, loving brother and father of one, passed away at age 73. He was born in Donaldsonville, La., the fifth child of Joel and B.A. Vetter. He graduated from Baton Rouge High School and attended L.S.U. before serving in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War era. A character has left our midst. As a kid he had the proverbial devil on one shoulder and angel on the other. The devil won often. On his devilish side he became the pack leader of his gang in the Spanish Town neighborhood of Baton Rouge and their pastime was creating havoc. The angel took over as he became the man he was meant to be. Mark owned several Blimpie franchises in the 70's followed by the establishment of his pride and joy, the Cafe St. George. Mark had a knack for entertaining those around him, and could make a family member or a stranger laugh with just a word or a look. He even created his own language, aka "Vetter language," which we all use today and have passed on to the younger family members. Mark took care of our mother in her later years, always providing her with love and support. He loved watching old sitcoms; Barney Fife was his "idol" along with The Three Stooges. He had a nickname for everyone he met, whether they wanted one or not! As they were growing up, Mark treated his siblings, Keith, Cyril, Mary, Kitty, Edith (Boo), and Andrew to non-stop amusement that we will always treasure. He was best known for his quick wit, humor and generous spirit. We could go on and on about Mark as he was an endless string of stories. He is survived by his siblings, his son, two grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents, Joel and B. A. Vetter will be awaiting his arrival at the Pearly Gates. The family is honoring Mark's memory privately. In lieu of flowers, or other memoriam, please consider a donation to the charity of your choice.
