Mitchell was born in Southern California, grew up in Metairie, Louisiana and made Baton Rouge his home for last 4 decades. He was a dedicated Route Sales Representative for Frito Lay for almost 35 years and approached that job the same way he approached everything else in life with reliability, pride and a strong work ethic that never wavered. In addition to his long career, he also enjoyed the hands-on challenge of real estate and flipping houses.
Mitchell was a faithful and devoted servant of God. He was also a very loving husband, father, brother, and friend. He treasured time with his family above all else, and especially loved family gatherings, where he could simply enjoy being surrounded by the people who meant the most to him. He also held a deep love for his country and followed politics with genuine interest. He was involved in The King's Men group at St. Alphonsus Ligouri Catholic Church, and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was known for his kind disposition and sharp, witty sense of humor. He taught his children the lasting values of hard work, honesty, and love. Even in death he continued to give, choosing to be an organ donor so that his legacy could live on in the lives he helped save.
Mitchell is survived by his wife, Julie Alleman Rios; daughter, Sophia Rios; sons, Alexander Rios and wife Nicole, Nicholas Rios, Joseph Rios; grandchildren, Lainey, Brody & Grant Rios, Krystyna Pagan; sisters, Cynthia Walters, Sandra Duncan, Delores Barocco, Lisa Quigley; brothers, Daniel Verret, Michael Rios and former spouse, Becky Lambert. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abel Rios & Dolores Rios and brother, Darryl Verret.
Visitation will be held at St Alphonsus Liguori Church, 14040 Greenwell Springs Rd, on August 6, 2026, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow.
