Nellie Teal Churchwell, age 67, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 11, 2021, at John and Sandy Teal’s home in Central, LA, after a long battle with cancer. She was born September 8, 1953, in Natchez, MS, to Jimmie Teal Sr. and Nellie (Owens) Teal. She worked at SAS Shoes for 13 years. Nellie truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures. She enjoyed chatting with family and friends, telling jokes, snacking, watching wrestling, fishing, playing bingo, and spending time with her nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed the outdoors and had a love for all animals and a special way with them. Nellie had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way.
She is survived by her daughter, Joy Churchwell; three grandchildren, Zaine, Zoey, and Kobe; two brothers, John Teal (Sandy), and JP Teal; three sisters, Hazel Burns, Jeanette Blanchard, and Pauline Davidson; one sister-in-law, Virginia Teal; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members who loved her dearly and her beloved dog and best friend, LuLu.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jimmie Teal Sr. and Nellie (Owens) Teal; five brothers, Leonard Teal, Jewel Teal, Jimmy Teal Jr., Clifford Teal, and Robert Rodgers; two sisters, Flora Holmes and Geraldine Jeter; two sister-in-laws, Dorothy Teal and Rustie Teal; and three brother-in-laws, Rev. Ted Burns, Ted Blanchard, and Jerry Davidson.
Services will be held Thursday, April 15, 2021, 9:30 am to 11:00 am, at Central Funeral Home located at 9995 Hooper Rd, Central, LA. Service will begin at 11:00 am and will be officiated by Pastor Bobby Dale Callendar. Graveside service will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Woodville, MS, at 2:00 pm.
Pallbearers will be Hank Davidson, Tommy Ray Davidson, Milton Burns, Paul Teal, Jacob Teal, and Jeffrey Teal. Honorary pallbearers will be John Teal and Brad Teal.
A very special thank you to John and Sandy Teal for their special care and dedication and LeAnne Teal for her love and dedication.
