C. Preston James Jr.

November 13, 1944 – October 24, 2026

C. Preston James, Jr., age 81, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Bibb Medical Center.

Preston was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He shared 59 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife and best friend, Dexine. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and cherished memories.

Preston is survived by his loving family, whom he cherished dearly: his wife, Dexine Boyles James; two sons, Patrick Cary James (Brandi) of Cullman, Alabama, and Martin Preston James (Peyton) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; five grandchildren, Brennon James of Nashville, Tennessee, Madilyn Morzinski (Christian) of Columbus, Georgia, Braiden James of Cullman, Alabama, and Lily Grace James and Cooper James of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; one great-grandchild, James Morzinski of Columbus, Georgia; his sister, Margaret James Crocker (Joe) of Brent, Alabama; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Preston and Pauline James of Brent, Alabama, and his two sisters, Martha Grace Allen and Ruth Cottingham.

Preston was a hardworking and dedicated man who operated James Hardware in Brent for over thirty years. He also worked with Liberty National Insurance and Home Depot for a number of years, building friendships and lasting relationships throughout his community while serving others.

A lifelong and devoted member of Brent Methodist Church, Preston faithfully served his church family in many ways throughout the years. His dedication to the church reflected his love for the Lord and the importance of faith, fellowship, and service in his life. Through his faith and the way he lived, he set a wonderful example for those around him.

Following his retirement, Preston especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Affectionately known as "Granddaddy," he found joy in the simple moments they shared together. Whether fishing, riding side-by-sides, or making milkshakes, he treasured the time spent making memories with his family.

He also looked forward to his weekday afternoon gatherings with his friends in the "Coffee Club" at Jack's. With his extensive knowledge and years of experience in hardware, Preston was often the person others turned to for advice and guidance on building projects and repairs. He was always willing to share his knowledge and lend a helping hand, doing so with joy and a generous heart.

While his passing leaves a tremendous emptiness in the hearts of those who loved him, the memories of Preston and the love he shared with his family and friends will remain a lasting part of their lives.

Pallbearers will be Brennon James, Braiden James, Cooper James, Christian Morzinski, Joshua Cottingham, Michael Crocker, Michael Gurley, and Jarrod Sanders. Honorary pallbearers will be his many

dear friends.

A visitation for Preston will be held at Brent Methodist Church on Monday, October 26, 2026 from 1 pm - 2 pm with the funeral service to start at 2 pm. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery in Brent, Al.
