Born March 8th, 1943, to Annie B and Haig Huey, Ann was the eldest of three where she assumed the mantle of servant leadership from a young age. A graduate of Suttle High School, she would go on to faithfully serve the people of Perry County for more than two decades, as Probate Clerk, Tax Collector, and Tax Assessor. During this time, Ann was also traveling around the state singing and performing as a proud member of the Gospel Four band. Additionally, she served for decades as Chairwoman of the Perry County Republican Party, and was an avid supporter of numerous other civic, community, and philanthropic causes. Ann’s support was perhaps most avid for her beloved Alabama Crimson Tide. Of all these roles, none brought her more joy than the role of “Nini/Nanny” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Fred Ellis Nichols; her three children, Lisa Edgar of Marion, Lee (Candy) Nichols of Suttle, and Lorri Nichols of Sprott; her three grandchildren, Alise (Chase) Compton of Greensboro, Landon Nichols of Prattville, and Alana Edgar of Mobile; her two great-grandchildren, Zoe Kate & Beau Compton; her brother, Dickey (Dianne) Huey of Sprott; her sister-in-law, Donna Huey of Jasper; and numerous nieces and nephews – all of whom she loved and adored dearly.
Ann is preceded in death by her mother and father, Annie B and Haig Huey of Sprott; her brother, Larry Huey of Sprott; and her granddaughter, Lisa Beth Edgar of Marion.
A graveside service for Ann will be held on Friday, December 22, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery in Sprott, Alabama.
Serving as pallbearers are Bobby Smith, Steve Taylor, Timmy Hughey, Glenn Hughey, Gene Richards, and John Turner.
