

Services will be held June 11, 2026 at Marion Methodist Church followed by burial in the Marion Cemetery with Rockco Funeral Home officiation.
Mrs. Avery was born Sept. 18, 1925 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She was educated in Perry County, Al, graduating from Uniontown High School in 1943. In July of 1943, she married her grade school sweetheart, Noman Avery. They were blessed with 51 years together until his death in 1995.
Others preceding her in death were her parents, Cyde Franklin and Velma Logan Barton; daughter, Dottie Avery; sister, Virginia Boozer; and her sons in-law, Roger Elliott and Tim Abrams.
She is survived by her daughters, Koky Elliott and Joyce Abrams; son in-law, Robin Hoops and sisters, Dorothy Moore of Oxford, AL.,and Joyce "Bootsie" White of Charleston, W.Va. Surviving grandchildren are Shay Singley of Tuscaloosa, AL., Barton Elliott (Brooke) of Stewart, AL., Julee Fowler (Jack) of Tullahoma, TN., Brandon Vaughan (Aprill) of Auburn, AL., Grady Abrams (Ariel) of Lincoln, AL., and Stewart Abrams (Heather) of Dover, NC. She is also survived by seventeen great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Avery was a long-time employee of Judson College. She was the oldest member of Marion Methodist Church having been a member for 92 years. The Marion community looked forward to admiring the flowers she grew in her yard, and many people enjoyed her various homemade soups, which she generously shared.
Doris Barton Avery's life was a life well lived. The blessings she brought to each and every member of her five-generation family as well as to her many friends and acquaintances are immeasurable. Her love and influence will forever be felt and cherished. She as the epitome of a gentile southern lady......with a bit of sassiness in the mix.
Serving as active pallbearers will be grandsons Barton Elliott, Brandon Vaughan, Grady Abrams, and Stewart Abrams,great-grandsons, Avery Elliott, Reid Kemp, and Fuller Morrison and long time friend Anthony Bennett.
