

Alsey Earl Mayfield (Earl), age 72, of Centreville, Alabama passed away from this life to his new home with Jesus on March 30, 2016, after a long battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He was raised in Brent, Alabama, graduated from Bibb County High School in 1962, and attended Jacksonville State University and The University of Alabama. Earl was a devoted member of the Army National Guard for 39 years and retired from the 145th Chemical Battalion as Master Sergeant. He served as a volunteer fireman with the Centreville Fire Department for 20 years and worked faithfully in many volunteer roles at Cahawba Christian Academy. Earl was a lifelong member of Brent Baptist Church where he served as finance chairman and taught Sunday school for many years. Earl is survived by his wife, Rita Jackson Mayfield; daughter, Lisa Mayfield Byrd; son-in-law, Craig Anthony Byrd; grandchildren, Adam Jackson Byrd and Abbey Annalise Byrd; Mother, Ruby Mayfield Calhoun; sister, Barbara Mayfield Morrison; and half-brothers, Alan and Ricky Mayfield. He was preceded in death by his father, Alsey Arnold Mayfield; paternal grandfather, Elihue Mayfield; paternal grandmother Ida (Cricket) Mayfield; maternal grandfather Elijah McMillan; and maternal grandmother Sara Clifford Young McMillan. He loved stateside and world travel with his wife, playing golf, and spending time with his daughter and son-in-law. He especially cherished time with his beloved grandchildren, who so affectionately called him “Pop.”
Visitation will be held at Brent Baptist Church on Friday, April 1 from 5 pm to 8 pm. The funeral service will be held at Brent Baptist Church on Saturday, April 2 with visitation from 10-11 am and service following with internment at Pineland.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation and gratitude for the prayers, love, and support during Earl’s illness.
