

James Morgan Prather, Sr., known as Buddy to many of his friends and family, passed away on Thursday, July 14th at the age of 82 at his home surrounded by loved ones. James was born in West Blocton to Morgan James Prather and Bessie Graham Prather on May 23, 1940. He spent a brief period of time in the United States Army before working as a pipefitter and welder at Pullman Standard and then General Welding in Birmingham. He loved to deer hunt and trotline fish and had some of the most amazing stories to tell. He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mildred Fancher Prather, who he married on March 30, 1959. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Helen Marlett. He is survived by his sister, Gloria Jean Prather, daughter Teressa Harvill (Jerry), son James Morgan Prather, Jr. (Tami), grandchildren Jennifer Singleton (Michael), Roger Brown (Holly), Sheree Linch (Ryan), Jake Prather (Norma), great grandchildren Justin, Logan, Kinsley, Colby, Jase, Mali, Ella and Rutland and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, July 17th at 2pm at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in West Blocton.
