

Born on August 16, 1936, Lucius graduated from Perry County High School and furthered his education at the University of Alabama. His dedication to his country was evident through his distinguished military career. Lucius served as Lieutenant Colonel in the Alabama National Guard for 35 years. He was a proud member of the State of Alabama All National Guard Rifle Team and completed assignments at locations such as 29 Palms, California; Fort Benning, Georgia; Quantico, Virginia; Camp Perry, Ohio; and Tullahoma, Tennessee, among others. Lucius retired from Marion Builders in 2018, marking the end of a long and fulfilling career.
In his personal pursuits, Lucius, along with Ryan Logan and Murray Hughey, initially purchased a company later to be known as Marion Builders Inc. He eventually acquired full ownership of the company. Lucius had a passion for deer hunting and enjoyed raising deer, often taking trips to the woods to observe them. He was a devoted Alabama Football fan and held season passes for many years.
Lucius was deeply involved in his community, serving on the Perry County Hospital Board and as the Fire Chief of the Marion Volunteer Fire Department. He also contributed to education by serving on the Marion Academy Board and was the president of the Jaycees. Additionally, he commanded the State Rifle Team and facilitated the establishment of the life flight helicopter pad "Perry 1."
Lucius L. Rayfield will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, community, and country.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Wert Rayfield and Jessie Lee Moore Rayfield; wife, Sherrell Ann Hobbs; and sister, Jean Rayfield Parrish.
He is survived by his son, Lucius Allen Rayfield (Lisa); daughter, Kimbrell Ann Rayfield; grandchildren, Jackson Rayfield (Michelle), Dakota Rayfield, Colby Smith (Summer), and Sherrell Ann Ryan (Tyler); great-grandchildren, Lynnden Ann Smith, Lucius Smith, Layton Smith, Fisher Ryan, Gemma Kate Ryan, and Ashton King Rayfield; special friends, Betty Cleary, Joyce Smith, Dreania Chandler, Barbara Rutledge, and Dorothy Lee.
Pallbearers are: Colby Smith, Tyler Ryan, Richard "Son" Starks, Lane Parsons, Earl Wayne Green, Doug Halbrooks, Tommy Jones, and Steve Logan.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Clyde Turk, Gospia Griffin, A.J. Ham, Sonny "Gunpowder" Hayes, Wayne "Batwing" Robinson, Leon Rutherford, Don Rutherford, Jerry "Bearhugger" Robertson, Richard "Possum Cop" Atkins, Robert "Blackeye" Turner, Donald Perkins, Ellis "Cutter" Edwards, Jackson Rayfield, and Robert Beard.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025 at 10 am at Marion Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, family would appreciate donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Marion Cemetery fund.
