

Michael Dale Goggins, 76, of West Blocton, Alabama, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026. Born at home on February 26, 1950, in Marvel, Alabama, Michael lived a life defined by faith, family, and service to his community.
Michael attended West Blocton High School as part of the class of 1968. He married Brenda Gail Boyd on January 10, 1969. Shortly thereafter, he embarked on a career that spanned more than three decades as a coal miner with Jim Walter Resources. Known for his honesty, hard work, and kind-hearted nature, Michael earned the respect and admiration of all who worked alongside him.
A devoted family man, Michael is survived by his son Michael Shane Goggins (Melanie) and daughter Sheree Syx (Brad), both of West Blocton; his sister Renita Tucker (Ward) of Brent; and his brother Tracy Goggins (Vicky) of West Blocton. He was a proud grandfather to Jesse McMinn and Kaylae Goggins and cherished his great-grandchildren Carsen Crumptom and Kentley Gamble all of West Blocton. He also held a special place in his heart for his step-grandchildren Brandon and Braydon Syx. Michael was preceded in death by his beloved wife Brenda Boyd Goggins; his parents Ralph and Annie Goggins; and his brother Randel Goggins.
Michael’s life was deeply rooted in faith. As an active member of Woodstock Baptist Church in Woodstock, Alabama, he exemplified a servant's heart through his dedication to the Lord and his community. He found joy in studying the Bible and sharing God’s love with others.
Beyond his faith and family, Michael had a passion for giving back to the community he loved so dearly. He was an integral part of organizations such as the Elks Association, the Masonic Lodge, and Friends of the Cahaba River. His commitment to preserving local landmarks was evident in the countless hours he spent caring for Coke Ovens Park and the Cahaba Wildlife Refuge.
In addition to his community service, Michael enjoyed fishing, cheering on Alabama football, and spending quality time with loved ones. His genuine spirit touched everyone who knew him.
Michael’s legacy is one of love, faithfulness, and selflessness. He will be remembered as a loving father, husband, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend whose life was a testament to kindness and devotion.
