Peggy Veitch Thrasher, age 88, of Hoover, AL entered into eternal rest in Pell City, AL on February 17, 2024. She was born in Bessemer, AL on November 14, 1935 to Elmer M. Veitch and Eugenia Corum Veitch. She is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Eugenia Veitch; husband, Kenneth Thomas ”Tom” Thrasher; her daughter Tracy M. Thrasher; brothers, Isaac, Elmer, Myron, and Franklin Veitch; and sister, Imogene Veitch Wallace. She is survived by her daughter, Lee “Leephether” Mikovitz (Donald) of Talladega, AL; son, Kenneth Thomas Thrasher, Jr. of Carrollton, GA; sister Elizabeth “Betty” Greer of Falkville, AL; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.
Peggy graduated from Bessemer High School in 1954. While in high school, she worked at her sister and brother-in-law’s Ice Cream Shop, then H.S. Kress until graduation. After high school, she started her long banking career starting at Bank for Savings and Trust in Birmingham, AL, then moved to First National, became Vice-President and Branch Manager at First State Bank in Bibb county, AL, then went back to First National, which became AmSouth, which later became Regions where she retired. After retirement, she went back to National Bank of Commerce, then went to South Trust Bank part time where she truly retired in 1999. During those banking years, she met and married a widower with 3 young children. Peggy accepted them as her own, and threw herself into helping him create a stable home. Peggy was a longtime member of Hopewell Primitive Baptist Church and helped her husband with his duties as Deacon and Treasurer of the church, and Secretary of Little Hope Association. She was devoted to her family and cared for her husband during his long term illness. Peggy was always interested in fashion and was considered a classy dresser and loved shopping.
Funeral Service will be Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 11:30 AM at Hopewell Primitive Baptist Church in West Blocton, AL with burial in Kinard Cemetery. Visitation will begin with family visitation at 10:30 and public visitation at 11. Elders Wayne and Ronald Crocker officiating. Rockco Funeral Home in Centreville, AL directing. Pallbearers will be granddaughters, Danielle Skinner and Joanie Thrasher, grandson, Kevin Thrasher, great-grandson Jake Carroll, nephews Calvin and Scott Doriety. Alternates: grandson, Charleston Thrasher and son-in-law Donald Mikovitz. Honorary Pallbearer: John D. Lowrey.
