She was born November 8, 1923, a middle child of 7 children, and graduated from Perry County High school in 1943. After graduating, she moved to Birmingham and worked for TCI. On a weekend visit home to Marion, she met Woodfin Nichols and they married 5 months later in 1946.
After marrying, they returned to Marion where they went into the grocery store business together and owned Nichols Supermarket until Woodfin's retirement. In 1993, she opened Browsabout Antiques and Things, where she worked for 10 years before retiring at age 85.
Known for her quick wit and playful pranks, Ruby stayed active by playing dominoes and enjoying time with her 12 great-grandchildren. Even at 101, she embraced technology, enjoying their iPad, iPhone, and Kindle.
Ruby and Woodfin had three children: Diane, Mike, and Rhonda. Mike passed away in 2001, and Woodfin in 2000. She also had 4 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Ruby remained remarkably independent, living in her own home until her death with the loving support of her daughters, Diane and Rhonda.
She is survived by: Daughters, Diane Nichols Harrison (Corin); and Rhonda Nichols; Grandchildren, Brian Harrison (Rachel); Kenley Harrison (Jada); Jonathan Snell (Kristen); and Kristen Heitman (Chris); Great-Grandchildren, Wren, Griffin, Miller, Anna Pruitt, Ellis, and Blake Harrison (Brian); Hayden and Easton Harrison (Kenley); Mary Ryan and Kate Snell (Jonathan); Winston and Teddy Heitman (Kristen).
Pallbearers are: Corin Harrison, Jr.; Brian Harrison; Kenley Harrison; Jonathan Snell; Chris Heitman; and Steve Logan.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30pm on July 3, 2025 at Siloam Baptist church (505 Washington St, Marion, AL 36756)
A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Burial will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery (906 Magnolia St Marion, Alabama 36756).
