Sarah Venola Blackburn
May 18, 1919 – December 29, 2018
Mrs. Venola Blackburn, age 99, of McCalla, AL entered into rest on December 29, 2018 at UAB Medical West in Bessemer, AL. She was born and raised in Bibb County, Alabama. She received Christ as her personal savior, was baptized as a young teenager and joined the Friendship Wesleyan Methodist Church(now Bible Methodist). She faithfully supported and attended church as long as her health permitted. She graduated from Bibb County High School in 1938, attended Livingston State College, taught school for two years and worked as office clerk in the Bibb County Probate office for eighteen years, October 1945 to Sept 1963. Mrs. Blackburn married William P.(Jack) Blackburn of Conehatta, MS in 1963 and lived there until his death in 1995. She returned to Bibb County and lived in Country Wood Apartments in Centreville, AL for 15 years before moving to assisted living facility in Jefferson County. She was a homemaker, member of the Butterfly Prayer Group. She enjoyed piecing and quilting quilts and reading. She was preceded in death by her husband, William P.(Jack) Blackburn; her parents, Eldridge and Sovella Mitchell Cook; three brothers, James Lonzell, Aaron Louis and Eldridge Jewel Cook; one sister, Jessie Dean Shows. She is survived by one brother, Henry Carl Cook(Mary) of Lakewood, Colorado, two sister in laws, Dean Cook of Birmingham, AL and Bobbye Cook of Conehatta, MS; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
