

Acklin was born in Marrero, Louisiana, to the late John and Ledlia Dufrene, on February 28, 1927. In 1944, he married his one true love, Viola Dufrene on May 20th – her birthday. They had just celebrated 74 wonderful years together.
He was a veteran of WWII, where he served in the United States Army 42nd Rainbow Division, in Europe. He retired from Murphy Oil after 27 years, and has been retired for 30 years.
He was a lifetime member of Terrytown Golden Age Club, and the German American Culture Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his two brothers, Clarence Dufrene and Alzay Dufrene, Sr.; and his two nephews, Raymond and Alzay, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Viola; his son, Harry Dufrene (Cindy), and his daughter Patricia D. Schneider (Johnny); his five grandchildren, Brett Schneider (Rose), Tiffany S. Eagles (J.D.), Bart Dufrene (Tuyet), Jonathan Dufrene (Kelly), and Lauren Dufrene; his seven great-grandchildren, Brittanie Schneider (Nick), Cheyenne Viola Eagles, Gabrielle Eagles, Steven Eagles, Blade Schneider, Jon Dufrene, and Jakop Dufrene; his four great-great-grandchildren, Jude Eagles, Avery Eagles, Kaleigh Miller and Autumn Miller, and his God-child, Patricia Emmons.
Acklin was a very kind and loving person. He will be missed by all who knew him.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. VIRTUE ST., in Chalmette, from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM, followed by a Mass in his honor at 12:00 PM. He will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
